MJF Architects were engaged to design a contemporary residence shaped by light, openness and longevity. The brief centred on creating generous living spaces that support both everyday use and entertaining, while clearly delineated zones provide privacy and retreat. Flexibility and spatial clarity were key drivers throughout the design process.
Positioned on a prominent corner allotment with dual street frontages, the site presented a series of architectural considerations. Orientation, privacy and the establishment of a clear entry sequence required careful orchestration. An irregular block shape, paired with a favourable north‑facing aspect, called for a thoughtful planning approach to optimise natural light while maintaining a cohesive internal layout.
The architectural response is organised around a light‑filled open plan arrangement that draws the northern aspect deep into the home. Living and dining spaces are oriented to engage directly with this outlook, supported by expansive glazing and a fluid internal layout that strengthens the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Private areas, including bedrooms and bathrooms, are carefully layered away from the main living zones, allowing the home to function intuitively for both social gatherings and quiet retreat.
The completed project comprises four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a dedicated study, unified by an emphasis on natural light, spatial generosity and ease of movement. The home comfortably accommodates daily living as well as larger gatherings, while a confident architectural expression addresses both street frontages with clarity, balance and contemporary restraint.
