Mount Annan Renovation

Status: Concept

The owners of an established home in Mount Annan wanted to significantly increase their home’s liveability and resale value through a second-floor addition and an updated facade. The goal was to transform a comfortable family home into something modern, distinctive, and market-ready.

The project required careful navigation of the local Development Control Plan (DCP) to ensure the addition remained compliant in terms of height, setbacks, and floor space ratio. The design also needed to introduce new materials that felt contemporary while complementing the existing palette — avoiding the ‘add-on’ look that can undermine renovation projects.

MJF Architects worked within the existing footprint to build upward, avoiding any increase to the ground floor slab and minimising construction disruption. New materials were selected to complement the existing structure while introducing warmth and texture through natural elements that reflect the bush setting of the area. The facade redesign gave the home a coherent, contemporary identity that reads as a considered whole rather than a staged renovation.

The renovation successfully transformed the home from a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom dwelling to a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home — a significant increase in accommodation and value. The new second floor integrates cleanly with the existing structure, and the refreshed facade gives the property strong street presence and improved market appeal.
