MJF Architects was engaged to design a comprehensive new club house and training facility for a football club in Miranda. The brief included a gymnasium, modern changeroom facilities, a bar and function room with a private function space, office accommodation, and a cafe.
The site offered a constrained footprint with a specific location requirement, limiting the total buildable area. A key ambition of the brief — maintaining clear sightlines to the playing fields from as many areas of the club as possible — placed significant demands on the building’s internal arrangement and its orientation on the site.
The view to the playing fields became the organising principle of the design. MJF Architects used the building’s orientation and section to ensure that the bar, function spaces, and cafe all look out over the oval, creating an active connection between the club’s social spaces and the game. The limited site area was addressed through careful vertical stacking of functions, ensuring every programmatic requirement was met without sprawl.
The completed facility delivers all brief requirements in a building that feels connected to the sport it serves. Members can watch games from the bar, parents can keep an eye on training from the cafe, and the function spaces offer a compelling venue with a backdrop that no hired event space can match.
